Early Life and Struggles

Dr. Mohammad Azam Ali was born on 5 August 1991 in Chirlavancha village of Siricilla Mandal in the former Karimnagar district of Telangana. He was the fifth child of Ahmed Hussain, a lorry driver, and Khalida Begum, a daily wage labourer. His family faced severe financial hardship and struggled to meet daily needs.

Due to lack of opportunities in their village, the family migrated to Karimnagar town in search of work. Azam studied in government schools because his family could not afford private education. Many days passed without proper meals and educational resources were limited.

When he was studying in the eighth class, financial difficulties forced him to discontinue his education for a year. During that time he worked as a wall poster boy pasting posters and banners on streets to earn money for his family. While working he saw a slogan of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan – Education for All, "Sab Padhe – Sab Bade." The message inspired him deeply.

With the support of his teachers he returned to school, which became the turning point in his life.

Education

Azam performed well academically and secured second rank in his school in the SSC examinations in 2006 from Government High School, Padmanagar village.

He joined Government Junior College Arts and Commerce in Karimnagar between 2006 and 2008 and studied History, Economics and Civics. He scored 873 out of 1000 marks and received the State-level Pratibha Puraskar Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from SRR Government Degree College in Karimnagar. Later he pursued M.A. in English Literature at Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana.

Coming from a Telugu-medium background, studying English literature was initially difficult. With encouragement and guidance from his teacher Syed Moin Ahmed, along with continuous reading of newspapers and daily speaking practice, he gradually improved his English communication skills.

He later completed M.Ed from the University College of Education at Kakatiya University, Warangal and qualified the State Eligibility Test (SET). He secured first rank in the Ph.D entrance examination and completed his Ph.D. in English from Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana.

  • National Integration Camp
  • National Youth Exchange Camp
  • National Youth Festival
  • National Youth Parliament

During the 2009 floods in Andhra Pradesh he organised donations for affected families and collected notebooks for students.

For his outstanding service as an NSS volunteer he received the Indira Gandhi NSS National Best Volunteer Award (2012–13) from the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
