Ravi Valluri (born December 14, 1962) is a retired bureaucrat (as an officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service)[1], faculty of the Art of Living, and author. He currently serves as the CEO of Chhattisgarh East Railway Limited and Chhattisgarh East-West Railway Limited.[2][3]
Early life and education
Ravi Valluri was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He studied at St. Xavier's School, Delhi, and completed his BCom. (Hons) from Hindu College, Delhi University. He later did his Master’s in Business Economics from Delhi University and a PGDM from the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon.[4][5]
Career
Ravi Valluri worked with the World Bank, FICCI, and CMA before joining the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). He served on eight zonal railways and worked on various projects, including special pilgrim trains during Kumbh Mela 2019 and movement of migrant labor during the COVID pandemic. He is currently involved in a project for the construction of an exclusive rail coal corridor.[6][7][8]
Career as an Author
Ravi Valluri has written several works in fiction and non-fiction genres. Several of his works were unveiled by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and have been translated into Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi.
His works in the non-fiction genre deal with subjects such as mind management, mindfulness, time management, stress management, thought patterns, counseling alcoholics, drug addicts, yoga, breathing techniques of pranayama, and Sudarshan Kriya. He has written extensively on these areas for papers like the Free Press Journal, Life-Positive E-Magazine, The Pioneer, and occasionally for The Hindu. He is particularly empathetic towards the problems of students facing examination blues.
Ravi Valluri has also written on the Indian Railways, women’s empowerment, environmental issues, travel, lifestyle, and entertainment for the Sakshi Post. These articles and his books have resonated with readers who keep contacting him for further details.[9][10]
His works of fiction include three collections of short stories, two anthologies, a spiritual fiction, and a true account (his autobiography). A running theme across his fictional works has been the parallels he draws between characters and incidents from the epic Mahabharata, the Panchatantra, and Zen stories and incidents and personalities of modern times.[11]
Ravi Valluri has captured the darker shades of human personality through his works of fiction but also looks at the end of the tunnel where there is hope and luminosity. He quotes Gautama Buddha, “Life is not all white or black, but has vast shades of grey”. It is this grey area where he believes humans plot and live their lives. This has enabled him to strike a unique chord with yet another category of readers who can associate with subjects like unrequited love, lust, avarice, same-sex relationships, ethics, and immorality.
He has also carved a niche in the genre of collecting quotes of eminent personalities like Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Hon’ble Prime Minister of India which captures the message they wish to convey.
Personal life
Ravi Valluri is married to Lakshmi Valluri, and they have two children. Together, they have launched a website called www.rustleofwords.in.[12]
